The climate in Central Europe is - or has been - one of greater contrasts, with more severe winters and drier, hotter summers. What used to impress my relatives and friends, when I first started posting photos from my English garden, was the earlier arrival of spring - we are talking weeks, not days - and how quickly our rainy island turned vivid shade of green, thanks to the Gulf Stream and all that precipitation. (They are used to it by now, and no longer react with 😮). In Britain, we are also spared the hassle of having to change car tires to winter ones, and then back again, and can enjoy gardens for longer - every year, we try to visit Kingston Lacy, a National Trust property, in February to see their famous collection of snowdrops, over one hundred varieties.
